The Role of Mental Training in Influencing the Anxiety of Pencak Silat Club Athletes in Tapak Suci Buas, Bungo Regency

Abstract
Anxiety is a common psychological issue experienced by athletes before and during competitions. In pencak silat athletes, anxiety can manifest as nervousness, lack of confidence, difficulty concentrating, and excessive physical tension, negatively affecting performance. This study aims to examine the role of mental training in reducing anxiety among athletes of Tapak Suci Buas Pencak Silat Club and to measure the influence of mental training on athletes’ anxiety levels.
This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Informants included two coaches and seven athletes selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques.
The results of the study show that mental training plays an important role in reducing anxiety and increasing the psychological readiness of Tapak Suci Buas pencak silat athletes in Bungo Regency. This training helps athletes in 1) Controlling Attention to stay focused, 2) Controlling Emotions when facing pressure, and 3) Energizing to restore enthusiasm after experiencing defeat. In addition, mental training fosters 4) Body Awareness so that athletes are more sensitive to physical conditions, 5) Self-Confidence through motivation and positive self-talk, 6) Mental Imagery to prepare match strategies. Furthermore, 7) Restructuring Thoughts to change negative thought patterns into positive ones. With the guidance of coaches through structured training, athletes are able to face matches with more calm, focus, and confidence,
